- It is a pity that most shells (such as GULAM, Mark Williams Co.'s
- MSH, MUPFEL etc. ) do not have an inbuilt feature to access any desk
- accessories that may be loaded. To come out of the shell to the desktop
- to access an accessory and then to re-enter again with the consequent
- long rehashing time can be tedious.
-
- The answer, of course, is to have a tiny GEM program that simply
- displays a Menu Bar, and so give access to the Desk Accessories. Such a
- program is so trivial, it would appear, that no one has bothered to send
- one in to the archives - although I personally know of people who have
- told me they have compiled one for themselves which they use regularly.
-
- So recently I also compiled such a utility viz. ADA ( Access Desk
- Accessories ), for this purpose. I could have done with this years ago!
- - and so I think this tiny program (1.5 kbytes) deserves a place in the
- archives - provided (as I believe - but I could be mistaken!!) that a
- similar tool does not already reside there. For the curious, it was
- compiled with Mark Williams C, stripped of its Symbols with REMOVSYM,
- and finally packed down to its current size with the POMPEY Packer.
-
- With ADA.PRG stored in one of the PATH directories of GULAM, for
- example, all that is necessary to access the Desk Accessories is to type
-
- gem ada
